Le lendemain et les jours suivants, Eld aida surtout Al dans son travail au fort, tandis que Marie et Moira assistaient Layla dans le sien et s'adonnaient assidûment à l'entraînement physique. Et environ une semaine s'écoula.
« Hey, Al. »
« What is it? »
« Why am I helping you in the first place? »
Eld demanda tout en triant les documents.
« Well…… because I'm busy, I guess. »
« I see. I thought things would've calmed down by now. »
« Things have calmed down a little, you know. »
Al répondit en rangeant les documents traités dans une boîte.
« Well then. That's all for today. Eld, want to go grab lunch? »
« Sure. I'm just about finished here too. »
« Aniki, let's go. »
Se disant : « Is he my pet or something? », Eld se dirigea vers la cantine avec Al et Keirack.
Contrairement à leur arrivée, la cantine débordait de monde. C'étaient les aventuriers fraîchement arrivés.
« Quite a lot have gathered. »
« Yeah. The monsters started moving about two days ago, so the timing was just right. »
« Still, it's a good thing Alderic's hunch was right this time. My predecessor would never have said they'd attack again in such a short span. »
Keirack dit cela en s'asseyant. L'expression d'Al s'assombrit en l'entendant.
« Regarding that…… there's something I need to talk about…… I'll call Marie and the others later and explain. »
Keirack avait l'air de vouloir l'entendre sur-le-champ, mais avec du monde autour, Eld l'arrêta du regard.
Puis, tous trois commandèrent au menu du déjeuner et commencèrent à manger. Tous trois avaient des couleurs distinctes, donc ils mangeaient plus que la moyenne. Du coup, les aventuriers incolores autour d'eux les reluquaient.
De plus, Al portait son uniforme militaire, et Keirack des vêtements civils bien taillés. Ils ne ressemblaient pas du tout à des aventuriers. Leur présence là semblait déplacée, et les aventuriers alentour ne purent s'empêcher d'être curieux.
« Eld Faniaal!! »
Eld se retourna quand son nom fut soudain crié alors qu'il buvait son thé de fin de repas.
« Hey, Hyuraisu. Haven't seen you at all this past week. »
Hyuraisu se tenait à l'entrée de la cantine. Les aventuriers alentour regardaient alternativement Eld et Hyuraisu.
« Eld and Hyuraisu? »
« Could it be Eld of Ice and Flame and Hyuraisu of Flowing Water!? »
« Those two are the adventurers who were active in the great clash a few years ago, right? »
« I can't believe such famous people are nearby. »
Al put entendre ces conversations en tendant l'oreille.
« Eld Faniaal!! Fight me!! »
En entendant cela, Eld regarda Al.
« He's saying that, but what should we do, Commander? »
« Let them do it in the outside arena. That guy's annoyingly persistent. »
Entendant cela, les aventuriers alentour se ruèrent vers l'arène en premier.
« Geez, do they really want to see someone's practice match that much? »
Dit Eld, l'air exaspéré.
« Practice match? What's about to happen is your execution!! »
Disant cela, Hyuraisu partit aussi.
« ……What do you think would happen if I didn't go? »
« There would be a riot and a public execution. That's too much trouble, so let's go. »
Eld bâilla comme si c'était une corvée et se dirigea vers l'arène.
